A city day spa situated in a health club, that’s part of the Five Star Grange Hotel in the City of London (right by St Paul’s Cathedral). The spa itself is part day spa, part hotel spa. It’s modern and well appointed and features a relaxation room, drink on arrival (juice, tea, water) and lots of staff around and on hand to help. The water facilities are part of the gym and health club, there’s a pool (you can do laps) jacuzzi, tepidarium, sauna and steam room. But be warned, this is the pool and health club for the hotel and children are allowed so it’s not always going to be the relaxing post-spa chill-out you would expect from a spa oriented location. I did enjoy my post-treatment swim and the change facilities are all new and really smart.
I decided to go for a signature treatment – but something completely different that I normally choose and picked the Sole Re-energizer Massage – which is an hour long foot massage. It was a really relaxing treatment (much more relaxing than you would think), I was well impressed.
It begins with the feet being bathed in warm water and thoroughly exfoliated (including the lower legs). Therapeutic Ajala Spa oils are then used to massage key stimulus points on the feet and ankles with the intention (so I’m told) to increase energy levels, encouraging the flow of blood around the body. It was the most thoroughly relaxing treatment. Half an hour on each foot, it wasn’t painful and didn’t use reflexology pressure point manipulation (which can hurt sometimes). I was fully clothed with a towel wrapped around my head to keep it warm and block out the light. I half dozed and loved every minute of it.
THE BEST BITS:
- Having a completely different treatment that wasn’t a standard massage
- Discovering a gem of a spa in the heart of the City of London
- Enjoying a swim post-treatment
