Suggesting a list of the best spas for men is courting trouble as I’m sure to miss out some very, very good ones. Apologies now! and email me if I have missed out a great spa that you think is perfect for guys. I visit lots of spas and most serve men fairly well. However, there is always room for improvement. I’ve made this selection based on a few things: range of treatment options on the spa menu, choice of fitness facilities and how welcome men feel. They are also spas that I have personally been to. I can recommend that they are great spas for men. Either alone or with a friend or partner. So here’s the best spas for men on National Men’s Grooming Day.
Galgorm Resort and Spa
Galgorm Resort and Spa is just over half an hour from Belfast and its a great place for guys, and excellent for couples (I’m thinking romantic weekend away). The new Thermal Village featuring indoor pool, sauna and snow cave plus cafe and relaxation room. This alone is more than most spas have, but outside the spa also boasts large Beltane hot tub, large sauna overlooking the river, a large steam room with a small viewing window outside and the river house, which doubles as relax space, yoga studio and exercise class studio. My favourite were the wood fired hot tubs by the river which you hire by the hour for cosy couple time. For men I suggest the Solace Therapy specifically designed for men. I also highly recommend the Celtic Sauna Ritual (pictured above). Includes: back and neck salt therapy massage combines the healing benefits of warm salt crystal stones with Swedish and neuromuscular techniques to relieve tension with calming body oil. Followed by a scalp massage and soothing Refinery facial massage. From £100.
Rockliffe Hall has one of the biggest gyms imaginable. There’s so much equipment, great team members to help with your work out. But lets face it. Spa-ing is more than working up a sweat in the gym. you should really be working up a sweat int sauna and there’s a great one of those. The indoor pool is huge and they recently launched a spa garden to spa outside. golf is a big draw here, so if you like hitting a round or two, then the sis for you. You can get a one night spa break from £210 per person including: overnight accommodation, two full days’ use of our spa and wellness facilities; a two course Brasserie dinner and your choice of 60 minute treatment. This spa escape is perfect for those who want to enjoy the true ‘Rockliffe Hall experience’ with an overnight stay in a luxury New Hall bedroom, easily accessible from the spa.
ESPA Life at Corinthia
ESPA Lift at Corinthia is a cutting edge spa in Central London and one of the UK’s very best. the thermals and wet area facilities featuring leading design features and are stunning. I also love the sleep pods. What sets this apart are the wellness and wellbeing therapies that really do capture the essence of what spa is all about. Having trouble sleeping? There’s a Mindful Sleep ritual including visualisation, massage and yogic breathing. the Mindful Massage is a top pic and really helps reduce anxiety. the fitness and health programs are worth checking out too. The Brain Power Programme combines mindfulness, massage and nutrition to boost brain power. The Corinthia therapies aren’t cheap. The Mindfull Massage is £190, but well worth it.
It’s always on my list of places I recommend. I sent another male writer there to review it for The Good Spa Guide Male Edit and he concurs. Ockenden Manor is a great spa for men with Executive treatments specifically designed for men. and the facilities are great. Grab a robe and hang out on the loungers in the garden by the outdoor pool. My tip is to book on one of the countryside cycling tours that end up at the local vineyard (yes for wine tasting). Or just chill out in the new isopod: A floatation tank where saltwater suspends the body effortlessly for total muscle relaxation. For a treatment the Ho Leaf and Rosemary Massage Muscle Melt is the top pick. From £99.
Aqua Sana at Center Parcs Woburn Forest
This spa is massive covering 7,200 sq metres. Just 50 minutes from London St Pancras by train, Aqua Sana at Center Parcs, Woburn Forest is as large, as it is impressive. Set deep in the forest, and cut into the side of a hill, the spa makes full use of the splendid views. And inside, the light and airy design blends with soft furnishings, a contemporary colour palette and leafy prints to ensure that the forest theme is evident in a stylish modern way.
Set over two floors, Aqua Sana boasts 22 treatment rooms; Pedicure Suite; two post treatment relaxation rooms; Serail Mud Suite and 25 experience rooms with varying temperatures from cold through temperate to hot, hot, hot. you could simply enjoy the spa facilities and have a great, relaxing time. But my top tip is the Elemis Biotec Super Charger for Men – From £45pp
This is the facial to de-stress, de-age and de-fatigue the male complexion. Ultrasonic peeling, steam and gentle current delivers a deep clean whilst a blast of oxygen gives the final touch to a multi-tasking, time efficient solution.
Thai Square Spa
For a cracking good massage (and I use that phrase literally) head to Thai Square Spa in London. Specialising in Thai Massage you will be sure to get her back, neck and shoulder aches and pains sorted in an instant. Thai Square Spa brings a touch of Thailand to a new location in Northumberland Avenue. Situated in the beating heart of London, it’s a great day spa where you can spend a few hours relaxing and revitalising mind, body and soul. Housed within a beautifully converted Victorian Turkish bath, it’s more spacious than its former site in Covent Garden and gives a great sense of space for relaxation post-treatment. The decor evokes visions of modern style Thai spa. My top tip for men is The Thai Square Spa Thai Herb Healer – a massage with the warm heat and fragrant herbs from the hot poultices.
Thai Square Spa Thai Herbal Healer: 1hr – £85
