British men spending big on ‘posh’ brands

It seems that British men are becoming more conscious of their looks or more vain – depending on which way you look at it. New research by the NPD Group indicates that the sales of men’s prestige skincare (the posh and more expensive lines) was worth £25 million in the UK in 2012 – growth of more than 4% year on year. This contrasts with falls in France, Italy and Spain. The most popular product (in terms of regular purchase) is treatment shave (see note below) followed by moisturiser, facial cleanser, hygiene products (shower gel and deodorant) and then exfoliator. Moisturiser now accounts for 20% of the entire prestige market throughout the UK. Men in London appear to be more concerned about anti-ageing than their counterparts in the rest of the country with Londoners regularly buying age related skincare  – including anti-ageing serums and eye creams. So – it seems that the continual flow of new product launches is welcomed with open arms by the great British male. FYI – the term treatment shave in …

The Vineyard at Stockcross

Review: The Vineyard

THE HOTEL: The Vineyard at Stockcross is both a gastronomic delight and wine lovers paradise, and to top it all off it plays host to The Vineyard Spa. This is no ordinary hotel, it’s a 49 room five star property inspired by the sun-soaked vineyards of California. The Vineyard is a true haven for food and wine lovers – and vinotherapy is infused throughout the spa menu, treatments and products (and ever so perfectly done). Yes, the spa is good (more of that to come) but what was a true revelation was the food. This really is a place to eat, drink, escape and relax. The Vineyard is often referred to as a ‘restaurant with rooms’, and it is a really great hotel but I was absolutely blown away by the top class menu led by Daniel Galmiche (previously of Le Gavroche and regular on Saturday Kitchen with James Martin). It was quite incredible. And then there’s the wine – there are over 30,000 wines in the wine vault. Not only was I treated to …

Energizing Cleanser

THE STORY: Cleansing is essential for clean, healthy skin. Most guys give their face the once over with a face wash (at best) the others – usually a shower gel – stripping the natural moisture in an instant. I tend to use a face wash in the shower for speed, but when I remember to cleanse properly, my skin does look cleaner, clearer and it reduces the size of my pores. I’ve recently been converted to cleansing by Sothys and its Energizing Face Cleanser.  It’s a cross between a cream cleanser and light scrub. It doesn’t strip the skin nor does it leave the skin squeaky clean – which is actually a good thing. When it’s left feeling squeaky clean you have usually stripped away the healthy natural oils. With the Energizing Face Cleanser your skin is cleansed and hydrated, leaving the pores cleaner and healthier – job done. THE SCIENCE: It comes in a creamy formula that’s ease to use and based on Rhyolite grains. These exfoliating particles help to gently free the skin …
