A definite cut above the average corporate hotel, Four Seasons Canary Wharf is a welcome retreat from the grey facades and steely austere front of London’s new city hub. On a grey, wet day, the warm reception from the staff was just what the doctor ordered.
The big draw at this hotel is its prime river front location. Bag a room with a river view and you could sit and gaze at the ever changing London skyline all day. When you tire of that make use of the guest passes for Virgin Active – just next door. It modern health club with a huge pool that looks out across the river is spot on.
The rooms are spacious, the beds comfy (and big) and the bathroom has a massive bath. Definitely make some time for a soak.
DOMINATE YOUR DAY:
Visiting the hotel to experience the new Dominate your Day Energy Programme, I didn’t get to have the renowned breakfast, feasting instead on porridge made with almond milk, topped with blueberries and chia seeds. Surprisingly tasty, it is designed to maintain blood sugar levels and in turn your energy levels though to lunch time. It is served with fresh beetroot juice (helps concentration and stress relieving) and a shot of wheatgrass (full of antioxidants).
During your programme you will be encouraged to exercise, taking a swim or walk (perhaps more if you fancy). The food is all created to boost energy and it super healthy. It’s combined with some facial routines (with samples left in your room) from the Organic Pharmacy as well as a super supplement to ingest. It’s a great idea and created for the busy business exec who is away from home and who wants to make the most of the day maximising energy levels all day long.
It’s a fairly strict programme which does begin with an early wake-up call and a cup of hot water with lemon, which is diuretic and aids digestion, helping to cleanse the system. I did miss my first cup of tea, but by the time breakfast was delivered to the room (yes you get room service in this package) I was fine.
At 11am you snack on some pistachios
Lunch combines red lentil gazpacho and toasted quinoa salad with scallops and snow peas. Naturally coconut water follows as your drink (it’s so now). This is a super healthy lunch that is sustaining, maintains energy levels and coconut water is a great hydrator and better than cheap energy drinks.
Late afternoon comes time for the highlight – the Relax, Restore, Revive Massage. An energising foot scrub in the treatment suite at the hotel (there isn’t a full spa) begins the therapy. Then it’s time for a full body massage with rose hip and rosemary oils – which help promote detoxification.
I have a lot of massages as The Spa Man and have to say that Rasa, my therapist, is one of the most skilled and ‘in tune’ massage practitioners I have come across. She tailored my treatment to problem areas – identifying problem spots I didn’t know I had. Especially in the lower back and hips. It was excellent. Truly excellent.
The Dominate your Day Package comes with a fairly heady price tag (£250) and this is on top of your room rate. But remember this – it includes a bespoke food programme, delivered to your room, a spa treatment and guided advice for health and wellness. You might consider what price do you put on your health.
It’s all achievable, and definitely not a punishing regime. You could easily carry it on at home and that’s what I like about it. It’s a gentle introduction to living a more energised life.
