Review: Pinks Boutique at The May Fair Spa

mayfair spa

THE SPA:

The May Fair Spa in the heart of London’s West End is a smart, modern day spa on the lower ground floor of the May Fair Hotel that, despite being around for some time, is not showing its age and offers a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of Piccadilly (just a block away).

Attracting hotel and day spa guests, it’s compact, smartly decorated in dark tones, black high gloss finish and mottled marble. With an Asian theme running through the facility, I loved the waterfall walls along the corridor and in particular the relaxation room with heated loungers. Whilst there is no pool (I can excuse that) there’s a shower experience, ice fountain, herbal sauna and aromatic steam room. Whether visiting as a hotel guest or on a day spa package you can easily enjoy a few hours or more of rest and relaxation.

THE TREATMENT:

I opted for something a bit different from a brand I hadn’t encountered before – the Pinks Boutique Body Delight. A head to toe treatment that includes a foot soak and scrub, full body scrub and back and shoulder massage.

You are given a choice of scents (depending on what your body needs) I was Lemongrass and Mandarin on my visit – great for detoxing. Following the foot rituals at the beginning, I was thoroughly scrubbed in slow, rhythmic motions with the sugar scrub and essential oils to get rid of the dead skin cells. I then showered ready for the next phase. May Fair Spa has showers in all of its treatment rooms – if you have this treatment elsewhere, the scrub might be removed with hot towels.

Next on the agenda comes the application of a deeply hydrating shea butter body balm. Fragranced with lemongrass – it was heady, transported me (in my head) to Thailand and lasted until the next day.

Then I had a wonderful back, neck and should massage using the brilliant balm. Afterwards I chilled out in the relaxation room, drifting in and out of sleep. Terrific.

THE BEST BITS:

Having my body scrubbed – you can’t achieve such a thorough exfoliation at home

Meeting Shauni – an engaging, knowledgeable spa therapist  who was absolutely excellent

Relaxing afterwards on the heated loungers in the chill-out room

ABOUT PINKS BOUTIQUE:

Pinks Boutique is a range of natural and certified-organic spa products and has come as a bit of a revelation to me. The products are inspired by the beautiful flowers, unique aromas and exotic ingredients of Indonesia, Tibet, Nepal, Thailand and Japan. It’s uplifting, truly potent and a treat for the senses. Keep your eyes open for this brand – it’s one to watch.

  1. Oh I’ve seen Pinks Boutique so many times (I used to write for a company that featured only ethical and organic products) and have always wanted to visit their spa as it looks so fantastic!! Thanks for the review, I’m now determined to find time to get to Mayfair to try a treatment 🙂

I am really impressed with the brand and think the products are great. Pinks Boutique has also recently opened in a couple of spas in the South West of England – Scarlett Hotel and Bedruthan if I remember correctly. Enjoy. Mark
