Nestled in the heart of County Durham, the award-winning Rockliffe Hall is a five star hotel, golf and spa retreat specialising in health and wellness without being pompous or pious. The spa is huge and at 50,000 square feet, it guarantees the luxury of space to relax, unwind and indulge without feeling cramped or overcrowded. There’s a 20 metre pool, thermal bathing pools, tepidarium, caldarium, roman and heat saunas, tropicarium, hydropool and ice fountain. I simply curled up on a comfy lounge and took a nap looking out across the country estate and golf course.
Comfort Zone and Dr Murad
Designed like a “best of” mega mix treatment, the Body Bliss begins with a gentle foot bath of fragrant water that allows you a little time to stop, breathe and relax whilst enjoying an Ayurvedic Indian Head Massage. You then hop onto the massage bed and a soothing warm oil back massage begins and also uses warm aromatherapy poultices for deeper relaxation (you get to take these back to your room to pop in the bath later). The massage is a thorough relaxation ritual and I even drifted off to sleep at one point (the sign of a good massage in my book). To conclude you are offered a pressure point foot massage which perfectly completes the treatment. Then, it’s onto the Sleep Retreat, a relaxation room with a difference, featuring mood lighting, privacy curtains and kitted out with sound wave therapy beds. You are tucked into bed under a leopard print shag pile blanket. Pop on the headphones and complete the total chill-out listening to the sounds of the ocean as you drop off to sleep. I was the only one in the room and stayed there for over an hour. I didn’t want to leave.
