Review: Thai Square Spa, London

Thai Square Spa London - The Spa Man

Thai Square Spa brings a touch of Thailand to a new location in Northumberland Avenue. Situated in the beating heart of London, it’s a great day spa where you can spend a few hours relaxing and revitalising mind, body and soul. Housed within a beautifully converted Victorian Turkish bath, it’s more spacious than its former site in Covent Garden and gives a great sense of space for relaxation post-treatment. The decor evokes visions of modern style Thai spa. It’s not a cliche with heavy wood and fake artefacts. In some places it is lively and vibrant with bright tiles in hues of copper and red. There are a few traditional wood carvings, gilt-hued murals and a well placed buddha or two.

The facilities include five Thai Massage treatment rooms, six Ritual Massage rooms and one vast VIP Suite Treatment Room with private relaxation zone and steam room form just part of this restorative haven. Other standout highlights include a Vichy Shower Treatment Room, Himalayan Salt House and Ice Fountain. Signature treatments include the Temple of Jade Hot Stone Body Massage and the Thai Herbal Ceremony. All use products from the bespoke in-house product line, iMantara by Thai Square Spa. there is also a Thai beauty bar on site and a salt inhalation room.

There are heat and water facilities in a compact corner of the spa which you can book in addition to your treatment. You will find a sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and ice fountain to cool off. The spa menu is huge with many, many choices of the face and body. I would stick to something totally Thai to transport you away to sunnier climes.

I chose the 1 hour Thai Herbal Healer. This is a soothing and family relaxing treatment combing stretches, muscle manipulation and massage with the warm heat and fragrant herbs from the hot poultices. Excellent for relieving stiff muscles. I liked how the treatment warmed the muscles and the gentle but firm massage technique. It combined elements of the traditional Thai massage, but was much gentler than what you would expect. This healing treatment begins with the application of a warm Thai herbal poultice, which contains a variety of therapeutic Thai herbs and spices. A full body ‘ritual massage’ follows using Imantara So Sen Uplifting Jasmine Massage and Body Oil. On a cold winters day below freezing, it was warming, comforting and totally relaxing.

Your Thai Square Spa treatment will include:

  • A traditional Floral Foot Soak
  • Use of the relaxation zones
  • Fresh Thai herbal tea on arrival and post treatment
  • Complimentary refreshments (for three hour long treatments or over)

I wasn’t so keen on the Roman style relaxation room. It didn’t fit with the overall concept and I suggest it is redecorated to match the Thai theme of the spa.
