Review: The House of Elemis, London

House of Elemis - The Spa Man

The House of Elemis is the showcase for Elemis, one of the spa industry’s great British success stories. The House of Elemis (on the site of its former flagship day spa) has totally reimagined the space creating a new iconic location for a brand that is aiming for the stars. Positioned as the creative heart of Elemis, the Mayfair townhouse retains the warmth and charm of the brand with a totally new look and feel. Modern, light, airy and contemporary, every element of the The House of Elemis has been thoroughly considered, designed and conceptualised for the client, ensuring that it matches the original brief to reflect the brand pillars: the very best that science and nature can offer.

House of Elemis - Pro Collagen

New ideas, new concept, new look

From the treatment menu to the design, fixtures and fittings, nothing has been left untouched and The House of Elemis has introduced innovations including the Speed Spa, a new retail concept and the launch of the VIP Penthouse Suite which all provide a new vision for the Elemis brand. The entrance has moved from the side mews with a dual aspect on the quaint laneways of the Mayfair Mews that it calls home.

Blending natural materials with textural lighting, artisanal glass, ceramic work and innovative design, the atmosphere is both contemporary and intimately residential. The materials for the build have been carefully selected using timber and parquet floors with a soft neutral but warm colour palette that enhances the presence of the product rather than competing with it. This is crafted to ensure that form follows function, particularly with the retail space, where strong visual merchandising, imaginative displays and promotional areas are given space. Light also plays an important part in the treatment rooms which are flooded with natural daylight and the electrical lighting is soft and relaxing, using the reflection of natural patterns in the ceiling and colour therapy to reflect the theme of the treatment.

The treatment menu

Noella Gabriel is the creator of all Elemis therapies, and is internationally renowned for her expert touch and unique take on what’s hot in the spa market. For the House of Elemis she has captured the essence of customer demand today, so that the treatment menu is future proof for a generation. Each experience is created to stimulate the five senses whilst attending to the client’s need right now. Naturally, it harnesses the power of technology and touch and utilises the Biotec Machine, with a new extended treatment ritual in response to demand from clients and spas alike.

There are specialist treatments for men, enhanced Biotec facials with longer treatment time and more touch, totally new massage therapies that fuse the power of heat and even pressure like the Poultice-Powered Muscle Release and the Hot Mineral Body Boost ensure that this menu is sure to withstand the test of time. The seven treatment rooms include a dedicated pregnancy treatment room where treatments are conducted on bean bags on the floor, adding additional comfort for the client.

Comfort continues throughout the treatment rooms with specially designed beds by Gharieni including two bespoke Amber and Quartz Crystal treatment beds. The first of their kind in the UK, the quartz can be molded to the clients body providing both warmth and support and provide a therapeutic spa experience. And these are amazing. It felt like I was sleeping on a warm beach, totally relaxing and comforting. It was pure bliss.

House of Elemis Penthouse - The Spa Man

Up on the roof

The Penthouse Suite is a dedicated double treatment room designed for uber-luxury experiences. It can accommodate friends, couples or family members who can experience couture beauty and relaxation in total privacy. Bathed in natural daylight and a neutral colour palette it offers an exclusive opportunity to spa in the heart of Mayfair, enjoying the new treatment menu, juices or sparkling prosecco with options for light bites and the spa concierge. The Penthouse features the largest one of the many sculptural installations from Valeria Nascimento in the spa. Her delicate porcelain petals create an elegant finishing touch to the walls and link the whole spa together though its subtle texture reflecting light and casting tiny shadows.

The Speed Spa

At the other extreme is the Speed Spa, located in the lower ground floor, it addresses the fast paced nature of life. An integral part of the business, it takes the experiences learned from the Elemis Travel Spa at British Airways and weaves this into a fast paced, results-oriented treatment space that is funky, full of life and will be quick and simple for any spa to adopt. A mixture of 15 and 30 minute treatments include brow shaping and nail treatments alongside the Elemis Speed Spa therapies.

House of Elemis Speed Spa

I have visited The House of Elemis numerous times for both body and facial treatments, each experience has been well-executed by professional and friendly staff. Most importantly, I always leave feeling 100 times better than when I walked in. It’s a gem in the heart of Mayfair.
