AA goes first class on BA

NEWS: Desired by many, experienced by few – first class is the pinnacle of air travel. Whilst most of us get to ‘enjoy’ the benefits of economy class, those up front in the first class cabin get all the treats. And now it’s even better for BA First Class passengers. Aromatherapy Associates and partner men’s line, The Refinery have created new amenity kits. Following research into what passenges actually want, the new kits will launch on the BA A380 aircraft flying to LA in October. They will roll out across the fleet around Christmas. Interestingly, the research found that practical items like deodorant are just as desirable as the obligatory toothpaste. But not stopping there, the new amenity kits will include tailored products to help passengers deal with jetlag and dehydration. In The Refinery First Class Washbag: Moisturiser, eye gel and shave gel, lip balm, deodorant stick, razor, brush and comb. Of course, there is the toothbrush, toothpaste and most brilliantly – a pen! New male spa menu: Mandarin Oriental, Paris

If you read The Spa Man you will know two things. I love the Mandarin Oriental Group and I am a big fan of the product houses – Aromatherapy Associates and The Refinery. So – this for me is big news. The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Paris has introduced Gentleman Essentials, a collection of treatments specially designed to address a gentleman’s grooming needs using power-packed products from grooming specialists The Refinery by Aromatherapy Associates. COOL! Gentleman Essentials treatments include: Essential Facial (1 hour 20 minutes, EUR 240) A deep cleansing and brightening facial that leaves skin looking clean, luminous and deeply hydrated using rich and deeply invigorating essential oils and botanical extracts. A relaxing scalp massage is also performed for a calming and comforting state of mind. Face & Body Treatment (1 hour 20 minutes, EUR 240) This is much more indulgent and begins with a back cleanse and exfoliation that refreshes the skin, followed by a stress relieving back massage and therapeutic relaxing scalp massage to pinpoint areas of tension, bringing relief to tired …

The Refinery launches in M&S - The Spa Man

The Refinery launches in Space NK

NEWS: I’m a big fan of The Refinery skincare that launched last year for men, so it’s a bit of a coup that it has secured a spot in Space NK. There are branches of Space NK everywhere, and if I’m in a grumpy mood you may hear me say that there are too many. Can you have too much of a good thing? Well, grump aside, this is good news for men and their skin. The Refinery was created in association with Aromatherapy Associates and is mighty fine. I really rate the Eye Gel reviewed here and have been using the Revitalising Moisturiser for weeks now and think its pretty good too. It is infused with aromatherapy – so it won’t suit everyone’s olfactory senses. THE DETAILS: Available in Space NK stores nationwide including 10 of it’s London locations and online too. Revitalising Moisturiser – £38 Eye Gel – £26

Refinery Eye Gel

THE STORY: I’m the world’s best advocate for using an anti-ageing eye product and the world’s worst for actually using them. I have great intentions for a few days – sometimes even a week then I forget all about it and leave the said eye product on the shelf. When The Refinery launched its new range of men’s skincare I was pleased to see an Eye Gel in the range. I prefer a gel over a cream, it’s easier to apply and lighter on the skin to touch and more easily absorbed too. This one’s hydrating and is indeed refreshing. Lightweight and cooling it’s designed to reduce dark circles and puffiness. THE SCIENCE: Larch Extract has an immediate tightening effect, whilst Sodium Hyaluronate plumps the skin to minimise fine lines and the Aloe Vera and Orange Flower Water help soothe and revitalise tired eyes. THE VERDICT: Not only is it cooling and soothing, it’s a must-have for a hangover. Seriously. THE DETAILS: 15ml – £25.00

Review: Mandarin Oriental, Singapore

THE SPA The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Singapore is a luxury destination in its own right (but works perfectly as a stopover en-route to Australia).  The hotel offers everything you would expect from the Mandarin group and a treatment or two helps adjust your body to a new time zone with ease. The signature spa therapies are all expertly designed to help soothe mind, body and spirit and I found they helped relieve the symptoms of jet lag in an instant. Completely refurbished in August 2011, the Spa boasts six treatment rooms, including two couples suites, a separate manicure-pedicure station, a reflexology space and tea lounge for relaxation. Dark woods and lacquered panels set the mood with warm earthy tones, louvered shutters and subtle lighting; it’s calming, tranquil and absolutely perfect. The only thing missing within the spa complex are water facilities, but the rooftop pool is just outside – and it’s where I retreated to snooze after my treatment. Inner Strength

Aromatherapy Associates is top of my list when it comes to aromatherapy blends and the launch of Inner Strength Bath and Shower Oil is no exception. Created by founder, Geraldine Howard (whilst undergoing treatment for cancer) the oil was designed to give her strength, courage and a positive frame of mind. An expert in the art of blending oils, Geraldine has combined the uplifting oils – clary sage and frankincense (to focus the mind and calm thoughts) with cardamon and rosemary (supporting physical strength), rose and vetiver (to calm and heal) and geranium (to stimulate circulation and balance the emotions). This is a potent formulation and really packs a punch. A little goes a long way and its fantastic that 10% of proceeds will be given to the charity Foundation ATK (Afweer Tegen Kanker Foundation/Defence Against Cancer that develops pioneering treatments for cancer.
