The Cottonmill Club at Sopwell House

Review: The Club at Cottonmill, Sopwell House, Hertfordshire

The Club at Cottonmill is the brand-new offering at Sopwell House and is a triumph of design. The beautifully constructed spa effortlessly combines contemporary design with a natural colour palette and rich textures to make this one of the UK’s most beautiful spa locations. The synergy between indoor and outdoor has been captured perfectly and is a testament to the vision of the Bejerano Family and the skill of spa designers Sparcstudio. Large panoramic windows offer guests great views of the estate. At almost every turn you can see the trees, look up to the wide open sky, and look down over the excellent spa garden created by award winning Anne Marie Powell. Set over three floors, The Club at Cottonmill is huge. What I loved is that there is space, plenty of space to simply be, to relax and chill and there are enough loungers, day beds and sun loungers to accommodate all guests with some to spare. On the top floor, the Whisper Room has large loungers in neutral tones, a fireplace and …

Spa London becomes Spa Experience by Better

Spa Experience by Better is the new brand new name for Spa London. I’ve written about Spa London and talked about it on BBC Radio 4 and am a big fan for a number of reasons. The team has partnered with quality spa brands and offers excellent treatments at competitive prices. It makes spa affordable for more people and spreading the art of relaxation through the wider population is a very good thing in my book. The group first launched in 2007 with a single spa at Bethnal Green in East London.  The facility was the UK’s first ever public sector day spa and created a niche offering in the market, by offering a high quality service, but with less of the cost and exclusivity of spas that had existed before. There are currently …

Back to the gym

It’s World Health Day today so instead of just dishing out health and fitness advice to others, I’ve put my money where my mouth is and re-joined the gym. I used to go to the gym regularly but let my membership lapse about a year ago. I kept on walking, cycling and doing the odd bit of yoga – but you know what – for me nothing beats a workout in the gym. I have tried (and really enjoyed) Holmes Place, Virgin Active and Fitness First – which are all great and usually come with fancy changing rooms, a cafe and lots of extras. This time around I have gone for a local leisure facility. Kinetika at Balham Leisure Centre. It’s got everything you need including a decent sized pool and is much more keenly priced than the previously mentioned health clubs. My goals: to lose a bit of weight, tone up a bit around my middle and get my heart pumping. Whatever you do today – take a bit of exercise. Your body will …
