Finnish Rooftop Sauna comes to Southbank London

The Southbank Centre brings the benefits of the sauna to the Southbank with its Finnish Rooftop Sauna. Promising guests they will get hot, hot, hot, there will be great views of the River Thames and you can cool off win the open air or with cold water buckets. The specially designed Finnish Rooftop Sauna will sit on Queen Elizabeth Roof Terrace, and there will be a sauna expert to demonstrate steaming stones and introduce you to the authentic sauna experience. Reaching 90 degrees celsius inside, you can then cool down outside (and in London that won’t be a problem, but for the hearty amongst you you can go full Finn and douse yourself with cold water. The benefits of the sauna are well researched (read more HERE) and even the Daily Mail has reported on the striking health benefits (so it must be true). There are some science-backed benefits to saunas, which range from increased circulation (as a result of the elevated heart rate and widened blood vessels that accompany exposure to intense heat) to reduced muscle soreness …

Akasha Holistic Wellbeing Centre

Reiki with Bernice Robinson

Bernice Robinson: Holistic Reiki Master & Crystal Healer There is a first time to experience everything in life and I headed to Akasha Holistic Wellbeing Centre at Hotel Café Royal to try Reiki for the first time. It’s a therapy I know little about and was perhaps a touch skeptical. What is Reiki? In lay terms, Reiki is a healing technique based on the idea that the therapist can channel energy into the patient by means of touch. It’s in part designed to activate the natural healing processes of the patient’s body and restore physical and emotional well-being. There is an element of healing, of being open to the energy of the earth and the universe. I met Bernice Robinson a year or so ago and felt an immediate connection with her. She is a trained therapist who practices elements of beauty and massage, but she prefers more holistic treatments and has been recognized for her skills with professional nominations and awards. Specialising in Reiki and crystal healing, Bernice harnesses her natural healing ability and intuitive expertise …

Beast London male beauty store - The Spa Man

BEAST – the new retail store for male beauty in Covent Garden

BEAST, the new uber-cool store devoted to retailing male beauty products has opened its doors in the heart of Covent Garden. Stand alone male grooming shops have come and gone in the past. But maybe 2017 is the right time for a store like this to finally be a success. It has got the basics right – cool store design, great lighting, excellent location with high footfall. And what impressed me most was the curated range of interesting high-performance brands. You really need to check it out as you won’t find many of these male beauty brands in your typical high street department store. This is a good thing. The brands are eclectic and sourced from around the world from Vitaman in Australia to Verso in Sweden. There are 80 brands in total with newcomers and long-standing classic and cult items. Shopping has never been easier as the store is signposted by concern, skin condition or treatment type. It has the potential to shape up the men’s skincare market. Especially for retail. The products are displayed by category …

Review: Bulgari Spa, London

THE SPA: Arranged over two subterranean floors, this vast spa includes a 25 metre indoor pool, relaxation area, large change facilities, high tech gym and steam room and sauna. The pool is impressive and is lined with shimmering green and gold mosaic tiles and gold leaf tiled vitality pool. It’s the centrepiece of the spa and a real treat. Modern, clean lines, with a few clever lighting effects create a wonderful ambience – this is a spa of distinction. Wood panelling through the corridors, change rooms and into the treatment rooms can be disorienting – you will often find yourself asking – where the hell am I. The pool and relaxation room are set off with an almost austere looking sand blasted Vicenza stone. I love the day beds around the pool, many with canopies and curtains for maximum privacy. You could easily spend a few hours chilling by the pool. The relaxation room is calm, serene with a small fire burning in the corner that’s mesmerising. Bulgari doesn’t impose a country house feel on …
