Drop your anchor with Red Anchor

Red Anchor is another new men’s grooming launch (in an already crowded men’s grooming market) which focusses its attention on the beard. British born, the brand uses lots of cold pressed oils in its range and is making a mark for itself. It’s a compact collection of products ranging from shower gels to shave products, but no moisturisers or skincare at this stage, it’s all about cleansing and shaving. I tried out the Red Anchor Sandalwood Beard and Face Cleanser which combines Sandalwood Oil, Organic Argan, Black Seed oils and extracts of Flame tree and Seaweed. These are designed to remove impurities from the skin and boosts natural barriers to ward off dirt. With natural anti-inflammatory properties to soothe skin and cleanse, the warm, heady scent of Sandalwood helps relaxation, RRP £12.50 for 250 ml. Red Anchor It did what it promised and cleansed the face and beard. And beard cleansing is a routine that should be done each and every day. However, I preferred it just for the beard and reverted to my usual …

Try a beer spa when you stay at Corinthia Hotel Prague

Beer spas fascinate me and when I’ve written about them in the past have proved popular posts. Guests can indulge in unlimited consumption of unpasteurised Beer Bernard during the spa experience (woo hoo!), and will receive complimentary beer cosmetics (shower products) to bring away as souvenirs. READ MORE about Czech beer spas here The health benefits of bathing in beer have been proclaimed since the Middle Ages and can be experienced to this day at the popular Beer Spa Bernard in Prague. Using only natural ingredients, the amber nectar is kept at a steady 37 degrees Celsius and continuously bubbling to ‘promote dissolution of ingredients’, releasing vitamins, carbohydrates and proteins. Natural and organic male grooming? It must be ManOrganic

The launch of ManOrganic really demonstrates how far the male grooming market has come. Not content with high street, mass-market shave solutions and skin creams, the new modern man is going natural and organic. Well, that’s the theory behind this new website retailing specialised natural and organic grooming products for men. It claims to be the world’s first online destination offering all-natural grooming products exclusively for men. I did a quick google search and it seems true. Whilst the likes of Mankind, Feelunique, Mr Porter and Regal Gentlemen have all cornered the online male grooming domain, none have specialised in natural and organic products for guys. The carefully curated range of natural favourites includes Antipodes, Bodhi & Birch, Green People, Weleda, John Masters Organics, Trilogy, REN, Pai Skincare, Pacific Shaving Company and Dr Hauschka alongside new additions including up-and-coming British male grooming brand Elements, and Preserve, a BPA-free razor made from recycled plastics. The range of brands offers and interesting alternative for guys who might purchase in store at Planet Organic, Holland and Barrett or …

Cornerstone’s Oliver Bridge on the male grooming market

The Spa Man spoke to Oliver Bridge, founder of Cornerstone, a subscription based shaving company that is shaking up the world of male grooming. Offering a unique service and top quality products, it’s a truly British success story. Oliver talks about the male grooming market, shaving and his business success. The male grooming market is booming. What is fuelling this growth – why are men more interested in grooming and taking care of themselves? I think it’s come from the fact that the concept of metrosexuality has died. For a long time, it was seen as ‘soft’ by a lot of men to use products like moisturiser and face scrub – something that was only for girls – this wasn’t helped by people like Peter Andre and David Beckham posing with 6 packs and fake tan on nationwide billboard campaigns: to take care of your skin was to put yourself in the same over-preened category. However, this metrosexual concept has really died a death – it’s now perfectly OK for men to use moisturiser and …

Regal Gentleman

Online retail destinations for men are booming. It’s where most men shop for personal care and grooming products and Mintel found that some 3 in 4 men purchasing their grooming products online (USA). Recently I’ve come across a new site – Regal Gentleman, which has a great little story.  Formed in early 2014 by Josh Blackburn and Liam Jennings, both from London and just 21 years old. They got the idea from visiting a barber shop, and felt there was a gap in the market for an online grooming retailer. Well, there are a lot of men’s grooming retailers – so what makes them different? Placing an emphasis on personalised service with a great customer experience, each product is tested by the guys before being listed on the site, and for me it’s the diverse range of interesting brands that really gives Regal Gentleman a point of difference. Some nice, unique and really interesting products lines including two of my favourites: Sothys and Bodhi & Birch. The list continues with Jack Black, The Bluebeards Revenge, …

Mo style for Movember: in the spa

It’s Movember and men around the world are growing a Mo for charity. It’s one of the biggest charity events for men and focusses on promoting men’s health. So guys – get wise, get checked. Particularly, but not limited to Prostate cancer. If in doubt – get it checked. So back to the Mo. There’s been an emerging trend in the spa world which has seen the rise of barber services in spa. The Refinery was one of the first to offer barbering and spa treatments, Gentlemen’s Tonic took it a little bit further by creating a male space dedicated to spa and grooming and last year when I was at The Spa at Frankfurter Hof in Germany I experienced a unqiue barbers shop within the spa read about it here. More recently Resense has partnered with Truefitt and Hill to create male only barber spaces in its spa portfolio, beginning with Hotel Adlon in Berlin (soon to role out across its spa portfolio) and here in London, Bulgari Spa has launched a similar modern …

Total refresh: LAB Series Multi-action Face Wash

LAB Series Multi-action Face Wash is billed a dual action face wash – promising to cleanse and refresh the skin, dissolving excess oil, unclogging pores and removing dead skin cells. After trialling this for a couple of months, I can assure you it leaves the skin clean, fresh and feeling like it’s been resurfaced. It has a light creamy texture with little beads that ‘melt’ as you massage it into the skin. Fragrance-free it doesn’t overload your senses first thing in the morning and is packed with vitamins to nourish the skin too. Recommended for use morning and night, I added this to my skincare routine once a week, like a scrub. With thin skin on my cheeks I was once advised by a top facialist to exfoliate no more than once a week. But for most guys once a day would be perfect. Most importantly, a little goes a long way which makes it a cost effective purchase. £18.50 for 100ml. What else? It can be used as a pre-shave wash/exfoliate for lift the …

What a BRYT idea

A new addition to the skincare and grooming scene is great little British brand called BRYT Skincare. It’s a bright, fresh concept which has just launched in Waitrose. The basic premise is a simple 3-step process of Cleansing, Nourishing and Protecting to maintain an uncomplicated  regime. It embraces skincare as part of a healthy lifestyle, along with the basics of exercising, getting enough sleep, eating a balanced diet and drinking lots of water. Aromatherapy meets Phytoscience is the USP,  utilising botanical ingredients which make it a sensory pleasure to use, but deliver some great results. The range consists of eight products for Her and four for Him. Each features the innovative Advanced Phytoscience System (APS), which includes pure aloe vera, healing allantoin and rich ‘super antioxidants’ extracted from organic Australian wild-harvested plums Kakadu, Burdekin and Illawarra – these superfruits contain up to five times more antioxidant power than blueberries. I am a sucker for a great smelling shower gel and BRYT didn’t disappoint. There’s four products in the men’s range and this would suit a …
