Spa Experience by Better Male bamboo massage

We’re all spa men now: Half of British men had a male spa treatment in the past year

The male spa market is booming as men really embrace their inner beauty, as Mintel predicts that in total Brits will spend £7.6 billion on treatments in spa, salon and in-store treatment areas in 2017. Male spa is booming according to these figures – and it confirms what I see when I visit salons and spas across the UK. I see more men embracing what’s on offer in the the male spa market. And it seems that men are increasingly calling in the experts for massage and hair removal treatments in particular. New research from Mintel reveals that almost half (47%) of young men have had a treatment in a spa, salon or other treatment area in the past 12 months*, up from one in three (33%) in 2015**. In the past 12 months, 18% of men aged 16-24 have had a massage treatment, up from 11% in 2015, while 18% have had facial hair removal or shaping (up from 8%) and 17% have had body hair removal (up from 6%). Mo style for Movember: in the spa

It’s Movember and men around the world are growing a Mo for charity. It’s one of the biggest charity events for men and focusses on promoting men’s health. So guys – get wise, get checked. Particularly, but not limited to Prostate cancer. If in doubt – get it checked. So back to the Mo. There’s been an emerging trend in the spa world which has seen the rise of barber services in spa. The Refinery was one of the first to offer barbering and spa treatments, Gentlemen’s Tonic took it a little bit further by creating a male space dedicated to spa and grooming and last year when I was at The Spa at Frankfurter Hof in Germany I experienced a unqiue barbers shop within the spa read about it here. More recently Resense has partnered with Truefitt and Hill to create male only barber spaces in its spa portfolio, beginning with Hotel Adlon in Berlin (soon to role out across its spa portfolio) and here in London, Bulgari Spa has launched a similar modern …

Spotlight on men: Asia Spa Awards

Three cheers to Asia Spa Magazine which has devoted three categories to men in its current round of spa awards.  Not only does this reflect the growing number of men who visit spas, it gives recognition to the innovators in the spa industry. In my experience very few spas have a great offering that is specific and unique to men. But the ones with a touch of vision and an eye for detail really get do get it right. As more and more men book spa days and spa stays, it’s worth taking a look at the leading lights in the male spa industry. The judging panel includes a range of health experts, spa gurus and well-being writers from from more than ten countries, including Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, India, Australia and also include some Asia experts living in the UK and US. Here are the finalists: Men’s Spa of the Year The Barber @ spaQ Sydney, QT Sydney, Sydney, Australia Bliss® Spa, W Hong Kong, Hong Kong, China Chuan Spa …

A man’s world: over 60% of men visited a spa in the last year

A new report by Spa Guide suggests there is a growing number of men visiting the spa. You simply need to visit any spa and you see it’s true. I have witnessed a growing army of guys in robes since I started The Spa Man and it’s set to grow. I know of some spas in London where the ratio of men to women is 50/50. Spa Guide has named this new group of men ‘Spa-rtans’, which sees the modern man happily donning white cotton bath robes in spa, ready for a whole range of relaxing and grooming treatments. The study also found: Almost two-thirds of men surveyed (61%) had visited a spa, by choice, in the last 12 months to make use of its facilities and enjoy a treatment. And, nearly a third (28%) said they would choose a spa day over watching a sports match or going to the pub with their mates (I certainly would). Interestingly the report revealed that some ‘spa-rtans’ want to remain a ‘man’s man’ in the eyes of …
