Eagles Villas Outdoor Pool

Review: Eagles Villas, Halkidiki, Greece

Eagles Palace and the new Eagles Villas form part of a family run resort in a stunning location just a few kilometres from Ouranoupolis, Halkidiki. In the shadow of Mount Athos, it’s the most incredible setting for one of Greece’s premier five-star resorts. Eagles Palace Hotel is where most of the action happens and sits right on the beach. Note, that the new Eagles Villas are slightly separated from the main hotel with an even more exclusive feel, situated up the hill with jaw-dropping views of the sea (more of that later). From water sports on the beach to the large pool and a host of fitness, cultural and relaxing activities, there’s plenty to do for everyone. The resort is family friendly (yes there are quite a few kids) but the kid’s club keeps them occupied most of the time. If you want to brush up on your Greek alphabet or Greek cooking skills, there’s a class. Take pilates or personal training too – it’s all covered in the daily activity schedule. The list is …

Review: Pedras Salgadas, Portugal

THE RESORT: An hour’s drive from Porto in Northern Portugal is the new Pedras Salgadas spa and nature park. Situated in a forest, it has a collection of eco-houses and two tree houses which offer a true connection with nature. The modern designs of the accommodation blend seamlessly with the trees and offer a great escape from life. Cycle, hike or spa – this is a great back to get away from it all. THE SPA: The spa and thermal spa waters are the stars of the show at Pedras Salgadas. Famous across Portugal, they are rich in minerals and naturally sparkling. The thermal water is used for some of the spa treatments and by consultation with the resident doctor for courses of three days or ore. The water is, naturally, available to drink in the spa.  With a gentle sparkle, and light fizz on the tongue, I found it ever so refreshing and oh, so spa. The art nouveau thermal spa was renovated by the architect Alvaro Siza Vieira and has a great range …

Review: Aqua Sana at Center Parcs, Woburn Forest, UK

AQUA SANA AT CENTER PARCS SPA Just 50 minutes from London St Pancras by train, Aqua Sana at Center Parcs, Woburn Forest is as large, as it is impressive. At 7,200sq metres it manages to impress on arrival and retain some delightful secrets so that the spa journey is interesting, varied and enjoyable. Set deep in the forest, and cut into the side of a hill, the spa makes full use of the splendid views. And inside, the light and airy design blends with soft furnishings, a contemporary colour palette and leafy prints to ensure that the forest theme is evident in a stylish modern way. There’s no denying, this is a massive spa project. Spa outside in the English countryside

On a bright, sunny day, there’s nothing better than being outside, feeling the warmth of the sun on your skin and hearing the gentle sounds of the countryside. Now it’s possible to enjoy all of this and a spa treatment – yes, all outside. Spa guests at Ockenden Manor spa can book themselves a spa treatment outside in the original 19th century walled garden. For added privacy and shade, you can ask to have the treatment under the new pagoda. I’m a big fan of the spa at Ockenden Manor and enjoyed a sunny afternoon relaxing by the pool with the sounds and sights of the English countryside. It’s divine. Naturally, there’s a range of treatments to choose from including massages with aromatherapy oils from organic UK beauty brand Ila (From 25 minutes, £51.50). Other treatments can also be arranged to be taken outdoors including the spa’s Kundalini back treatment – the deeply soothing and relaxing treatment which aims to balance the whole nervous system thanks to a combination of an exquisite essential oil blend, …

Postcard from Zurich

Zurich regularly tops the list of best places to live and rightly so. It has a great feel, the people are friendly, the transport is excellent, well integrated and inexpensive. But what makes this places so fabulous is the access to lake, forest and mountains. There’s even beach areas beside the lake. Within minutes you can be swimming in the lake or hiking through the forest. Winter obviously offers the chance to go skiing. I was really impressed with the city and how it offers a real balance between cosmopolitan cool and outdoor adventure. I was lucky enough to visit and stay at the Dolder Grand – a grand historic hotel build high on the hills overlooking Zurich in 1899. Remodelled and reimagined with two new wings – the hotel now boasts a spa wing and golf wing both designed by architect, Norman Foster. The views are to die for, the spa is modern and well equipped (more to follow later) and in seconds you can be cycling through the forest. and aside from the …

Review: Sri panwa, Phuket

Sri panwa is in a class of its own. Effortlessly cool, it is a mix of private residences and pool villas perched at the tip of Cape Panwa in Phuket. Set in lush tropical surroundings, this really is luxury personified, but ever so relaxed in the delivery. The staff are warm, open and eager to help, but not in your face. All of the pool villas have their own 12 metre infinity edge pool which wraps around the bedroom and separate living space. There’s a day bed, two bathrooms, terrace and sun loungers and naturally, ipod docks are programmed with the very latest, chilled beats. On arrival at Sri panwa you are greeted by your personal villa assistant who can handle any request, no matter how big or small. Our two requests – cold milk for our tea in the morning and finding my notebook, which was on the other side of Phuket – returned with a smile. It’s peaceful, tranquil and very, very private. The outdoor shower is a must. We hardly left the …

Review: Banyan Tree Phuket

THE RESORT: When you arrive at the Banyan Tree Phuket, you know it’s a large resort. The huge driveway leads to reception which is buzzing with people and smiling staff. A warm welcome greets you and it’s not long before you are whisked away to your private villa. All accommodation in the resort is based around villas and they are sublime, blending Thai inspired décor with modern comforts. Landscaped with palms, trees and scented flowering frangipani trees, you can lose yourself for an hour, a day, a week or more. Banyan tree Phuket is situated on the edge of Bang Tao Bay where you have the option of swimming in the sea, in one of the many outdoor pools or you could upgrade to a pool villa and have your very own. The spa pavilions in the Spa Sanctuary are a must for spa lovers. On arrival we were greeted by two therapists who conducted a welcome foot ritual using green tea and honey scrub and a relaxing shoulder and neck massage. What a welcome! …
