Spa Experience by Better Male bamboo massage

Spa London becomes Spa Experience by Better

Spa Experience by Better is the new brand new name for Spa London. I’ve written about Spa London and talked about it on BBC Radio 4 and am a big fan for a number of reasons. The team has partnered with quality spa brands and offers excellent treatments at competitive prices. It makes spa affordable for more people and spreading the art of relaxation through the wider population is a very good thing in my book. Spa Experience by Better is a fresh new look for the spa group which has locations right across London and the South and the business has some very interesting plans to expand the concept nationwide. Partner brands include Elemis, La Sultane De Saba, Murad and Essie. The group first launched in 2007 with a single spa at Bethnal Green in East London.  The facility was the UK’s first ever public sector day spa and created a niche offering in the market, by offering a high quality service, but with less of the cost and exclusivity of spas that had existed before. There are currently …

Review: Ushvani Spa, London

THE SPA: Ushvani Spa is a hidden oasis of tranquillity in a listed terrace building in the heart of London’s Chelsea. Dark wood abounds throughout the spa which suits the South East Asian theme. Blending a holistic approach to clients with a mix of Asian inspired treatments, it had an authenticity that many “eastern” spas in the UK can’t match. The spa has a host of quality facilities including four treatment rooms – but guys – you can’t access most of them. You can have a treatment and use the tea relaxation room, but the water and thermal suite is out of bounds. For the ladies you can enjoy full access to these: spa pool, steam room and relaxation room. THE TREATMENT: The Ushvani Warming Herbal Ritual was created especially for winter, to warm and comfort the body and soul. And it certainly does. Fragrant (thanks to the oils and herbal compresses) this is truly Oriental and perfect on a cold winter’s day. Inspired by movements from traditional Nuad Bo-Rarn Thai massage, Thai reflexology and …

Spa to You opens at London Hilton

London Hilton on Park Lane has announced the opening of Spa to You. Located on the lower ground floor of the hotel, the new opening is apparently the first ever permanent Spa to You outlet, which previously had operated as a mobile spa service. The spa menu includes a range of treatments and specialises in fabuous French brands including vinotherapy treatments from Caudalie and one of my favourite brands – French marine beauty specialists, Thalgo. Spa To You also has its own line of wellness and home use spa products and is launching its own range of natural beauty and body products end of 2014. Glancing through the treatment menu, there’s some unusual choices – like traditional Japanese nightingale dropping facials, which are said to contain a natural cleansing enzyme and have become popular with Hollywood celebrities. Spa treatments include a wide range of massages, from traditional Swedish and hot oil Polynesian massage, to Chinese Tuina/Acupressure, designed to balance the body’s chi and improve blood circulation. Manicures and pedicures, waxing body wraps and a range of alternative therapies are also …

Review: Su-Man at AWAY Spa, W London

THE SPA: Light and bright, you could be forgiven for thinking you have entered the pearly gates of heaven. It’s a compact day spa in the W Hotel, London.  It plays host to celebrity and expert therapists like Su-Man and spray tan expert, James Harknett. AWAY Spa does offer sauna and steam room, but that’s about the extent of the “spa” facilities. You come here for the glamour and the expertise and it delivers that in massive doses. THE TREATMENT: Su-Man Skin Reborn Sculpting Facial at the AWAY Spa, W Hotel London A favourite of stars like Juliette Binoche, Frieda Pinto and Anne Hathaway, Su-Man’s signature facial is legendary. Blending her unique expertise in dance, Shiatsu, Pilates and oriental facial massage, this is a facial like no other and her magical hands work wonders sculpting the face. Hailed as a facelift in an hour; it’s non-invasive and uses an incredible array of techniques that are totally unique. Originally from Taiwan, Su-man fuses her knowledge of the body, massage and the face for a truly original …

Pure Flow at Bulgari

The Spa at The Bulgari Hotel & Residences, London, has launched a range of Pure Flow Pulsation treatments so I went along to try out this weird and wonderful counter-pulsation therapy. It’s designed to boost circulation, increase energy and to restore equilibrium, it is truly one of the oddest things I have ever tried. You are connected to the machine with straps and a heart monitor that pumps air to massage your legs and thighs in time with your heartbeat.  The theory is that it simulates circulation and lymph drainage – which is great during a detox programme and perfect to help remedy jet lag and aching muscles after a long flight. It was uplifting and awakening too – I was alert and really felt great as a result. No creams or potions are used. You hop into a pair of spa pyjamas and can dim the lights to sleep or read. Immediately afterwards my legs felt lighter, but after a series of 4 treatments in 4 days, they felt trim, toned and pretty incredible. …

Review: Bulgari Spa, London

THE SPA: Arranged over two subterranean floors, this vast spa includes a 25 metre indoor pool, relaxation area, large change facilities, high tech gym and steam room and sauna. The pool is impressive and is lined with shimmering green and gold mosaic tiles and gold leaf tiled vitality pool. It’s the centrepiece of the spa and a real treat. Modern, clean lines, with a few clever lighting effects create a wonderful ambience – this is a spa of distinction. Wood panelling through the corridors, change rooms and into the treatment rooms can be disorienting – you will often find yourself asking – where the hell am I. The pool and relaxation room are set off with an almost austere looking sand blasted Vicenza stone. I love the day beds around the pool, many with canopies and curtains for maximum privacy. You could easily spend a few hours chilling by the pool. The relaxation room is calm, serene with a small fire burning in the corner that’s mesmerising. Bulgari doesn’t impose a country house feel on …

Mother’s Day Spas

It’s Mother’s Day – forget the cheap bunch of flowers and ditch the box of chocolates from the supermarket. A little planning (and some sound words of advice from The Spa Man) and your mum will soon be on her way to one of the UK’s top spas. My advice is to buy a package as you can get accommodation, lunch and a mix of taster treatments included, all for one great price.       Spa in the City The Sanctuary Spa in London’s Covent Garden is iconic. I’ve been privileged to have a tour (out of hours) as it’s strictly women only. I can put my hand on heart and truly say it’s a great place to send your mum. I often buy day spa gift vouchers for my Mother-in-law and she truly loves it, she goes along with her daughter and they have a ball.  The spa is situated in a beautiful building filled with hidden treasures; it’s a true sanctuary and a world of escape from life outside. The spa …
