Elemis Men - The Spa Man

Elemis reveals new look with new products for men

Over the past year of so, Elemis has been tweaking its packaging and adapting its logo. As part of this brand refresh it has overahauled its men’s grooming range, introducing both a new design and new packaging for the Time for Men range – now called simply – Elemis Men. The brand refresh includes a new smart, modern look and feel as well as the launch of two new products which join the popular male skincare line. The new Elemis Men Anti-Fatigue Eye Gel is a cooling, instantly refreshing product which soothes puffiness around the eyes. Sugar-beet betaine, yeast extract and golden root work to reduce signs of tiredness. Whilst British white willow extract is a powerful anti-inflammatory. It joins the brand new Anti-Fatigue Day Cream, a light, hydrating post-shave moisturiser formulated with Amazonian pracaxi oil to regulate skin hydration, olivine extract to stimulate cell metabolism, barley seed to soothe redness and irritation and vitamin E, to nourish and hydrate. Elemis is an excellent range for guys wanting to upgrade their skincare regime and acts …

Bodhi unveils new branding

Bodhi is one of those brands that I really rate. I love the ethos, the packaging and the product. Now, after just three years it has rebranded as Bodhi & Birch. I am currently loving the Pep Noir Shower Gel – it’s spicy and peppery and has a great texture, so you don’t lose half of it before you can apply it to your body. It’s the perfect start to the day. Don’t know Bodhi? It draws on a mix of Eastern and Western skincare and wellbeing philosophies, with some additional inspiration from the healing power of nature and traditional botanical remedies. Made in England, Bodhi & Birch products are expertly blended using natural ingredients ethically sourced from sustainable origins. I love how the brand uses an unusualy and heady mix of essential oils and active botanicals. It’s truly distinctive. The entire range is designed to stimulate the regeneration of healthy skin and maintain it at optimum levels. I haven’t tried any of the facial skincare range to date (which is quite comprehensive) but it’s …

eforea spa in NZ goes local

With so many spas around and just as many spa brands, what I look for in a spa is a point of difference. Partnering with a local brand is an easy concept and really consolidates the brand message for the spa too. Embrace the local environment. So I was interested to read that the eforea spa brand from Hilton has done this on the South Island of New Zealand. The Hilton Queenstown Resort and Spa has introduced the Evolu skincare range as one of its core treatment options. The home-grown botanical collection —  available on eforea’s shelves and in its therapy rooms—was created by Kiwi Kati Kasza with natural ingredients from New Zealand. The potent blends include unique plant species, such as native ferns, flax and kawakawa (a coastal plant), along with other pure components ranging from New Zealand manuka honey to marine wakame algae. Evolu and eforea have worked together to create a custom line, available only in eforea spa treatments, which includes: ● Body mud – using New Zealand avocado pear oil for …

Brilliant face masks

Once a week the general advice is to treat your skin to a face mask. Cleanse the skin, exfoliate and apply. Choose one according to what your skin needs – whether it’s to calm, nourish or reduce oil or regulate sebum. It’s an easy process and I always do it in the bath (although purists might suggest the heat from the bath counters the benefits). Below is my pick of three of the best face masks of the moment. ishga Exfoliating Face Mask This uses grains of milled seaweed to gently exfoliate too. It is packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and trace elements and is recognised for its ability to revitalize, repair, and moisturise giving a feeling of new skin. £35 – www.ishga.co.uk Elemis Post Shave Recovery Mask Designed specifically for men the Post Shave Recovery Mask is a fast-acting facial mask, that helps calm the irritation of blemishes and minor shaving nicks, whilst actively reducing skin sensitivity or shaving burn and restoring vital nutrients lost during shaving. £28 – www.timetospa.co.uk Spa Find Energizing Mud …

Discovered in Phuket

On my recent trip to Phuket, I discovered a lovely, locally produced spa oriented bath and body range. Lemongrass House began its life in 1996 and has received accolades around the world. Produced on the island, it’s now available internationally in 28 countries across the globe. I used the Lemongrass Shower Gel this morning as a little pick-me-up in the shower (recovering from jet lag) and it instantly transported back to Thailand. The products are, as you would expect, based on local Thai ingredients. There was a small shop in Surin Beach where I was staying and many of the local restaurants have a bottle of the Lemongrass Mosquito Spray on hand to keep the pesky bugs at bay. The full range of fragrances and essential oils includes Thai Pomelo and Frangipani – two of my favourites. Lemongrass House prides itself on its ethical production – all products are made from local sources in Thailand, and are all handmade and contain absolutely no perfumes, dyes or sulphates, making them great for the skin, environment and …

Energize me

Men’s skin creams, lotions and potions rarely talk of radiance or luminosity – it’s all about energy and performance. Fair enough – they basically do the same thing – but it’s how it appeals to the audience. Male grooming uses more straight talking language and note, just because a product says “For Men” doesn’t mean it’s any good. There are dozens of skincare ranges that aren’t specifically designed for men that are excellent and produce fantastic results. Recently I have put a couple of engergizing products to the test. These aren’t gender specific but focus squarely on the benefits to the skin. I was most impressed with Sothys Energizing Day Cream, it’s particularly good for winter skin. It has a rich, thick texture that cocoons and protects the skin and is great after shaving. It’s formulated with Siberian Ginseng extract to protect, Yeast extract + Rice peptides to stimulate and Lupine extract to regenerate. Then I turned my attention to a super serum. Serums are a little harder to judge in terms of efficacy as …

Sothys seasonal facial

To combat the effects of a harsh winter, Sothys has crafted a limited edition seasonal facial boosted with pear and grape extracts. Providing an intensive mineral boost, the Oxygenating Facial harnesses the anti-oxidant properties of grapes and the softening action of pears. Working together, the ingredients help restore the skins’ natural suppleness and radiance. This new spa treatment combines four tailored products, two of which are also available for home use. Activating cellular regeneration and stimulating cellular defences, it provides the first line of facial defence against the harsh winter weather and is a great spa treatment for men and women alike.  The two new retail products to the Sothys spa range that are suitable for professional use include the 2 in 1 Mask Exfoliant. It’s a gentle and effective product that contains polyethylene particles for soft mechanical exfoliation to remove dead cells and impurities. Used as a mask, it acts as a source of oxygen for the skin and contains the additional benefits of pink clay which purifies, oxygenates, remineralizes and detoxifies. The second …

Seaweed harvest in the Hebrides

It’s not everyday that someone invites you to visit the Hebrides, let alone to go harvesting seaweed. Jumping at the chance, I travelled North, courtesy of new spa brand ishga (which means water in Gaelic) to the remote island of Lewis. Landing in Stornoway, I knew I was somewhere very different. The landscape is a touch barren, wildly beautiful and captured my heart in an instant.   I was given a guided tour by Malcolm Macrae and Martin Macleod, directors of ishga and lifelong residents of the islands. Visiting key sites where the natural ingredients are sourced, we stopped by the natural mineral well where the healing waters are drawn – it’s a secret location and my lips are sealed. We then headed down to one of the vast lochs to try my hand on one of the mechanical harvesters. ishga has an exclusive licence to harvest seaweed in the Hebrides signed with the Crown Estate, and does so in a sustainable method. Hand harvesting is a major part of the business too. So on …
