Four Seasons Park Lane - Mother's Day Spa - The Spa Man

Review: The Spa at Four Seasons Hotel London

THE SPA: In a commanding position on the top floor of the Four Seasons Hotel at Park Lane, the spa is light airy and inviting. The staff were superb and the views even better. Making the most of its superior location, the views extend across the London skyline from the reception area, all treatment rooms and the sky lounge cafe. Taking in everything from Hyde Park to the key sights of Big Ben, The Shard, Green Park and the London Eye, these views alone give the spa the wow factor. But scratch the surface and it’s more than just the skyline that impresses. Interesting brands and well-designed treatment are sure to please. The reception space, white walls segue with the sky views and are highlighted with accent notes of art around the walls giving a touch of warmth. The compact hydro and heat facilities are enough to ensure you are relaxed pre and post treatment. The facilities are separate for men and women and lead onto a treatment waiting area which is cosy with neutral …

Review: Pennyhill Park Hotel and The Spa

THE HOTEL: Set in 123 acres of rolling Surrey parkland, this elegant 19th century manor house features 123 luxury bedrooms, a Michelin starred fine dining restaurant, a 9 hole golf course and of course – the spa. Dating from 1849, the vine covered main building is the centre piece of the property. Most of the rooms are in the newer wings and have free WiFi, four-poster beds, quality linens and even a pillow menu. They are cosy and have an olde world feel. It’s a nice country retreat around an hour or so from London. THE SPA: Renowned for its huge facilities, the Spa at Pennyhill Park scores highly in reviews online and with 45,000 sq. ft. of facilities – there’s lots of everyone. Dominate your day at Four Seasons Canary Wharf

THE HOTEL: A definite cut above the average corporate hotel, Four Seasons Canary Wharf is a welcome retreat from the grey facades and steely austere front of London’s new city hub. On a grey, wet day, the warm reception from the staff was just what the doctor ordered. The big draw at this hotel is its prime river front location. Bag a room with a river view and you could sit and gaze at the ever changing London skyline all day. When you tire of that make use of the guest passes for Virgin Active – just next door. It modern health club with a huge pool that looks out across the river is spot on. The rooms are spacious, the beds comfy (and big) and the bathroom has a massive bath. Definitely make some time for a soak. DOMINATE YOUR DAY: Visiting the hotel to experience the new Dominate your Day Energy Programme, I didn’t get to have the renowned breakfast, feasting instead on porridge made with almond milk, topped with blueberries and chia …

Review: The Dolder Grand, Zurich

The Dolder Grand certainly lives up to its name and reputation. Positioned high on the hill with commanding views across Zurich, it’s renowned across Europe for its history and service. A total overhaul taking four years saw architect, Norman Foster create two new wings, with his signature style, which modernised the resort, yet manage to complement the original look and feel of the main hotel building (which dates back to 1899). Surrounded by woodland with the most incredible views, it combines modern five-star luxury, with old world charm. It was magical. The spa occupies the ground floor of the spa wing, with accommodation suites above. I stayed in the spa wing and had magnificent vistas of the lake and the forest. In total there are 176 rooms and suites, two restaurants (the food is exquisite and I tried Swiss wine for the first time). Breakfast is taken on the terrace in summer months. The hotel manages to create a welcome feel, combining wellness resort with world class luxury. I honestly didn’t want to leave. THE …

Review: Pedras Salgadas, Portugal

THE RESORT: An hour’s drive from Porto in Northern Portugal is the new Pedras Salgadas spa and nature park. Situated in a forest, it has a collection of eco-houses and two tree houses which offer a true connection with nature. The modern designs of the accommodation blend seamlessly with the trees and offer a great escape from life. Cycle, hike or spa – this is a great back to get away from it all. THE SPA: The spa and thermal spa waters are the stars of the show at Pedras Salgadas. Famous across Portugal, they are rich in minerals and naturally sparkling. The thermal water is used for some of the spa treatments and by consultation with the resident doctor for courses of three days or ore. The water is, naturally, available to drink in the spa.  With a gentle sparkle, and light fizz on the tongue, I found it ever so refreshing and oh, so spa. The art nouveau thermal spa was renovated by the architect Alvaro Siza Vieira and has a great range …

Review: Aqua Sana at Center Parcs, Woburn Forest, UK

AQUA SANA AT CENTER PARCS SPA Just 50 minutes from London St Pancras by train, Aqua Sana at Center Parcs, Woburn Forest is as large, as it is impressive. Set deep in the forest, and cut into the side of a hill, the spa makes full use of the splendid views. With savings up to 50% of standard prices, there really are some impressive deals to be had. I have had a look through these and there are some top name spas involved. Some advice: When looking for a spa deal, spa day or spa break, always read the small print. Is the price per person or for two people? Does it include a treatment or just use of the facilities? And before booking, have a look at the spa’s own website so you can properly check out the facilities. Is it really a “spa”, does it have a pool, does it have thermal experiences …

Review: Su-Man at AWAY Spa, W London

THE SPA: Light and bright, you could be forgiven for thinking you have entered the pearly gates of heaven. It’s a compact day spa in the W Hotel, London.  It plays host to celebrity and expert therapists like Su-Man and spray tan expert, James Harknett. AWAY Spa does offer sauna and steam room, but that’s about the extent of the “spa” facilities. You come here for the glamour and the expertise and it delivers that in massive doses. Review: Banyan Tree Phuket

THE RESORT: When you arrive at the Banyan Tree Phuket, you know it’s a large resort. The huge driveway leads to reception which is buzzing with people and smiling staff. A warm welcome greets you and it’s not long before you are whisked away to your private villa. All accommodation in the resort is based around villas and they are sublime, blending Thai inspired décor with modern comforts. Landscaped with palms, trees and scented flowering frangipani trees, you can lose yourself for an hour, a day, a week or more. Banyan tree Phuket is situated on the edge of Bang Tao Bay where you have the option of swimming in the sea, in one of the many outdoor pools or you could upgrade to a pool villa and have your very own. The spa pavilions in the Spa Sanctuary are a must for spa lovers. Kallima Spa at Hilton Syon Park relaunches

Earlier this year, the Kallima Spa at Hilton London Syon Park re-launched with a brand new concept and name, becoming Kallima Club and Spa.  The spa has parterned with one of my favourite brands, [comfortzone] and is really focussing on relaxation, fitness and nutritional advice with a holistic approach to wellbeing. Just outside of London its a great reatreat for Londoners and indeed anyone in the South East (and beyond). What I really like is how the spa is bringing together the key concepts of wellness – fitness, nutrition and relaxation. Therapists and trainers create bespoke Kallima journeys tailoring them to individual preferences and desires. At each step, personalised touches ensure that visitors are guided down a clear pathway to reach their individual goals, be it relaxation, fitness or overall improvement of their health. The personal trainers can help with all of this and from a nutritional point of view: a delicious ‘spa menu’ designed by Executive Chef Paula O’Neill has been introduced to compliment physical exercise programmes and revitalising spa experiences. But never fear, …
