Review: Spread Eagle Hotel & Spa, Sussex

THE SPREAD EAGLE HOTEL & SPA: Set in the heart of the historic Sussex market town of Midhurst, the Spread Eagle Hotel is one of the oldest coaching inns still in existence in the UK, dating back to 1430. The Spread Eagle is proper “olde worlde”, charming and cosy, it is exactly what you would expect from a traditional old inn. Quirky, a bit crooked in places, which adds to the charm it’s built with low ceilings, exposed beams, in Tudor style – it is old England at its very best. It has a great little spa – arguably the best spa in Sussex. For all of its history it doesn’t lack creature comforts and modern spaces. The terrace area between the hotel and spa is perfect to enjoy tea or a snack. The Wifi was easy to log onto, a little slow to download really big files, but fine for general, browsing. And the staff were all welcoming and friendly creating a relaxed informal feel, ensuring I felt right at home. The rooms are very …

Breakfast Smoothie for your skin

THE STORY: Temple Spa Breakfast Smoothie is designed for normal skin and is a smooth, creamy facial scrub that gently and effectively lifts dead skin, leaving it fresh and clean. It smells really fruity and delicious and if it were served in a glass, I would scoff it for brekkie. I’ve been known to apply it and leave it as a mask treatment (when I have time). THE SCIENCE: Apricot Oil – moisturising and nourishing Honey – softening and smoothing Jojoba Oil – moisturising and reduces moisture loss Oat Seed Extract – soothing and calming Pear and Apple – clarifying Papaya – softens and refines the skin Strawberry – skin brightening and astringent Orange Oil – refreshing and stimulating THE VERDICT: Works as good as it smells. I use it sparingly as I don’t want it to run out. THE DETAILS: 100ml – £22

Stubble Trouble

THE STORY: As a grooming writer I get sent lots of products to try and review. The pile gets quite big and on occasion things get buried, like this little number I recently uncovered. Temple Spa Stubble Trouble must have been in my grooming draw for at least a year. As I’d just finished my favourite shave gel I decided to put this to the test. It’s got a fresh marine-like scent, applies easily and has a gentle foam – a little goes a long way (you really don’t need much) which makes it super cost effective. The razor glides easily over the skin and the ingredients help sooth any razor burn. THE SCIENCE: It contains a whole host of herbal ingredients that are antiseptic and anti-inflammatory. Lemon, Lime oil, Thyme, Aloe Vera, Juniper oil, Lavender, Basil, Bergamot, Patchouli, Rosemary, Cardamom. THE VERDICT: As a little goes a long way – it’s well worth the price tag (and some). THE DETAILS: £15 for 150ml
