Mindful Massage launches at ESPA Life at Corinthia - The Spa Man

Mindful Massage ESPA Life at Corinthia, London

Mindfulness really has been having a moment and has become a go-to for all things wellness-related so it was only time that a Mindful Massage would be introduced to a spa menu. Mindfulness been used (and abused) as a term for calming the mind and living in the present moment. At its core, it is a simple method of paying attention to what’s happening in the present moment. Studies confirm its benefits for health, improving sleep and mood whilst reducing blood pressure and anxiety. I discovered this meditative practice in 2011 when I was suffering from stress and anxiety. And it worked. You have probably heard of the App from Andy Puddicome called Headspace. If you don’t have it on your phone, download it now. It might just change your life. It will certainly help you gain some headspace. Fast forward to 2017, the visionary spa brand ESPA brought mindfulness to the spa treatment menu. At its flagship spa in Central London the team has introduced a series of mindfulness treatments to the menu at …

Is massage the key to a good night’s sleep?

Quality sleep is essential for mind, body and spirit and affects how we deal with ageing, stress and happiness. Beata Aleksandrowicz, a massage expert and the creator of the Pure Massage Spa Training Method,  explains why sleep is so vital to health and how massage can help. She goes into detail on how to get a good night’s sleep saying: “Sleep is vital for life, health and happiness. In today’s digitally driven world, we rarely get enough. Hormones plays a vital role in our sleep patterns and massage is an excellent way to positively influence these whilst helping to soothe the soul and calm the nerves, ensuring you get a peaceful night’s rest.” It’s not just the external factors that affect our sleep patterns. there’s a lot going on inside and its our hormones that have a huge effect. She adds: “Levels of the hormone cortisol are often elevated in people who are stressed (yes – that’s most of us) which can lead to insomnia. Amansara, Siem Reap, Cambodia

Review: Amansara, Cambodia

Aman properties are as distinct as their destinations and Amansara is no exception. The personalised, warm welcome begins as you enter the gated residence and continues throughout your stay. The catch phrase from the staff is “welcome home” and they are right. You instantly feel at home as you relax into the chic vibe of the place. The mod sixties design of Amansara is a highlight and you may well feel like an extra in a James Bond film (from the Sean Connery days). Originally built in 1962 as the guest residence of King Sihanouk, by French architect Laurent Mondet, it accommodated visitors unable to stay at the royal residence nearby. Dignitaries such as former French President Charles de Gaulle, Jacqueline Kennedy and actor Peter O’Toole stayed here during its heyday, so it definitely has star appeal. Reimagined as a resort by Aman in 2002, the property celebrates its design with low slung chalets and has expanded to add more guest rooms which retain the retro-chic feel of the main buildings.  It’s a peaceful oasis in …

ANATOME Charlotte Road - The Spa Man

Anatomē launches new health and fitness concept in Shoreditch

Anatomē is hip, cool and casual new concept which embodies pretty much everything I love about wellness.  It’s a wellness concept built on the principle that nutritional and emotional balance is the pathway to a healthy, fulfilling life. Here, here! What is anatomē? Anatomē is the latest venture from Brendan Murdock (founder of Murdock London, the barbers) and is based on his personal quest to support his own health and wellbeing. Apparently, Brendan felt that many of the established health and fitness stores were short changing customers, offering too many unnecessary products without thought or care for the retail experience and failing to engage with the customer. The first anatomē store has an expertly highly curated edit of own-brand essential oil elixirs, vitamins and nutrients.  They tackle the major issues of our time – sleep, emotional balance, confidence, stress – you name it, the oils will help. The store also offers a range of sports wear (it’s the antithesis of Sports Direct) plus accessories alongside a health café, serving healthy freshly pressed juice blends, smoothies, …

Globally more than 41 million kids under the age of …

The Hammam for example is a vigorous body treatment unlike anything else that draws on local Islamic culture with regional variations in Morocco and Turkey. The Rhassoul …

The best places to spa outside on a bank holiday weekend

It’s a bank holiday and the weather looks set to be sunny and rather glorious. The Spa Man has picked the best places to spa outside. What better way to enjoy an extended bank holiday weekend than to enjoy relaxing spa treatments and the great outdoors. The UK has some brilliant spas and what’s more – lots of them have an outdoor pool or patio. Book it now. The Scarlet The Scarlet in Cornwall is renowned for its fabulous green credentials. Modern design touches and sustainability are evident throughout the hotel and spa. Shinta Mani Angkor, Siem Reap, Cambodia - The Spa Man

Review: Shinta Mani Angkor, Siem Reap, Cambodia

Shinta Mani Angkor in the bustling tourist town of Siem Reap in Cambodia is the perfect spot for temple touring when visiting Angkor Wat. The heritage site at Angkor Wat covers an area roughly the size of Birmingham and the temples are jaw-dropping. Shinta Mani Angkor is just 15 minutes away from the temples.  The hotel is a modern, slightly quirky boutique offering with a great little spa on the side. It’s situated in a smart part of town, on one of the best kept streets in the French Quarter and is an Instagrammers dream. Bill Bensley Design at Shinta Mani Angkor Designed by acclaimed architect Bill Bensley, there are 39 contemporary rooms in the hotel which draw on elements of Khmer inspired design. The eye catching monochrome colour scheme is punctuated with splashes of colour, which makes for a refreshing change from hotels that follow the teak-heavy style of many South East Asian hotels. We were greeted with a glass of fizz on arrival which was a nice touch. Check-in was seamless and we were …
