The British summer has well and truly arrived and with temperatures soaring there are lots of UK spas that have have outside relaxation areas and spectacular outdoor pools where you can swim, sit, sleep or simply chill enjoying fresh air, a gentle breeze and the warm sunshine. Summer is here, so let’s spa outside!
Thermae Bath Spa
Famous the world over, Thermae Bath Spa was re-opened in 2006 and is Britain’s only natural thermal spa. It combines both historic and contemporary spa facilities. The roof top pool has a view that looks across Bath. In the late evening sun – it’s hard to beat.
St Brides Spa Hotel
Perched on top of a cliff overlooking Saundersfoot in Pembrokeshire, the infinity pool is something to savour. I visited one January a few years back and took a dip in the pool (it was heated) – the views across the sea and beach below are spectacular. Imagine blue skies, relaxing spa treatments and a soothing dip in the pool.
Focussing on health and wellness, Grayshott Spa gets the balance just right. The outdoor pool looks across the serene Surrey countryside. Listen to the gentle sound of the wind in the trees or the huge variety of birdlife. It’s a slice of heaven and shows the British summer at its very best.
C-Side Spa – Cowley Manor
Cowley Manor is in the heart of the Cotswolds and offers a sublime rural retreat. The modern C-Side spa is slightly sunken into the ground and the pool is secluded and ever so special. Close your eyes and you could be anywhere in Europe, but no – this is one of England’s finest outdoor spa pools.
The Scarlet in Cornwall is renowned for its fabulous green credentials. Modern design touches and sustainability are evident throughout the hotel and spa. But what captured my attention is the clifftop outdoor swimming pool filtered by reeds and the clifftop hot tubs that look out across the ocean. I have not been to The Scarlet as yet, but friends who have give it glowing reviews.
Verbena Spa at Feversham Arms
In the heart of Helmsley in North Yorkshire and surrounded by countryside, this spa is on my must-visit list (it’s a long list mind you). The fine weather has blessed the entire country, so if you are based in the North of England or indeed travelling North – the outdoor pool looks a treat. In the central courtyard of the hotel and spa – it’s the centre of the relaxed and laid back hotel.
