The Spa Man’s favourite shower gels

shower 5

I can’t remember when we stopped using soap in the shower. I have memories of using soap still whilst at University in the early 90’s, but after that – I must have soon switched to shower gel. Coming in all shapes, sizes and scents, there are the good, bad and the ugly. It’s an important product as it’s quite often the first one you use in the shower, cleans you froom head to toe and has a big impact on you as you wake up. Get it right – it’s going to be a good day. Get it wrong, well I’ll leave that up to you.

Here’s a round up of my favourite ones that I have been trialling over the past few months.

Thalgo shower gel

Thalgo Men Wake Up Shower Gel

This has a lilght marine-like scent, is blue in colour (I quite like that) and evokes thoughts of the sea. It foams reasonably well, cleans in an instant and doesn’t require any extra effort. Thalgo Men Wake Up Shower Gel is boosted as it’s also a ‘stomach-firming’ gel that helps boost microcirculation to break down fat. I didn’t rub it on my tummy much so can’t comment on that.

aveda energizing

Aveda Energizing Body Cleanser

This isn’t specifically marketed at men, however, it packs a punch and delivers on it’s ‘stimulant’ promise. No, don’t be saucy, this is jam packed with hydrating ingredients that invigorate your skin (and senses) with a refreshing blend of aloe vera, witch hazel and grapefruit seed. What I really noticed was the blend of plant-derived aromas of peppermint and ylang ylang. In fact to be honest – peppermint is the key feature. If you are having trouble kick starting in the mornings. Get this now.

A’Kin Pure Man Energizing all-in-one Hair and Body Wash

A’Kin, from Australia is a range of natural products and has a men’s line too. The shower gel is great, but very spicy, so I suggest it’s must better suited to winter.  A blend of five concentrated cleansers combined with Ginseng, Orange, Clove and Cardamon.  I like it, but it’s not a summer shower gel. Foams well, does what it says, the scent does linger and stay on your skin. Lovely, but too spicy for men in summer.

£9.50 for 150ml and

terrake shower gel

Terraké Anti-fatigue Shower Gel for Men

I know I recently reviewed it, but had to give it another shout as I really rate this one.  It’s got quite a thick consistency – almost like honey – but this is not sticky at all – it lathers up well, has a mild spicy fragrance and lasts forever. As you can only squeeze a small amount each time – it doesn’t come running out everywhere.

molton brown sport all in one

Molton Brown 4 in 1 Sport Wash

This range seems to have divided the bloggers, it wasn’t a hit with everyone. I am a big fan of this 4 in 1 Sports Wash – it’s a gym bag essential and I use it evey time I go to the gym. It does it all, smells fresh, sporty and gives a hint of scent on the body that lasts a few hours. The lime is the hero ingredient in this for me.
