Summer presents lots of skin challenges, so The Spa Man has curated his set of perfect summer skin essentials. From cleaning (most important) to hydrating (well essential really) through to SPF protection (now why wouldn’t you?). Then the finer points like eye cream, hydrating mist and a touch of fake tan. There’s something from everyone here in the summer skin essentials round-up for 2017.
Verso Skincare Foaming Cleanser
There’s something brilliant about Verso. Not only is it simple and easy to understand. The products are a dream to use and offer excellent results. It has a light, almost fruity fragrance a little like papaya. I LOVE IT. It’s soothing and purifying and perfect for daily use. This foaming cleanser will purify the skin without disrupting the skin’s protective function. It gently removes light make-up and impurities, leaving the skin translucent and clean.
Kiehl’s Cactus Flower and Tibetan Ginseng Hydrating Mist
Excellent a an all-round spritz when it’s really hot (keep it in the fridge for an extra cooling action). Or simply spray after cleansing and before moisturiser. It’s a cooling, refreshing formula that purifies and hydrates your skin, breathing new life into your complexion with every spritz. Formulated with Cactus Flower and Tibetan Ginseng helps skin maintain its essential moisture to keep it soft and smooth. and it contains a potent blend of Lavender, Geranium and Rosemary essential oils this product works to detoxify and protect skin from environmental aggressors.
Murad City Skin Broad Spectrum SPF 50
For people who are serious about protecting their skin, this claims to do it all. Protecting against the sun’s rays and the new baddie – pollution. Did you know Blue light from digital devices can damage your skin too? This is possibly the most important element in your summer skin essentials kit. Dr Murad offers skin a new level of protection. This ultra-light 100% mineral broad spectrum PA++++ and SPF 50 sunscreen with Environmental Protection Technology shields skin from 5 main causes of damage that accelerate signs of ageing: Blue Light from devices, Pollution, Infrared Radiation, UVA and UVB rays.
Caudalie Vineactiv Energising and Smoothing Eye Cream
Everyone needs an eye cream and I admit, I’m not brand loyal here. This is the latest one to land on my desk and it works a treat. This gentle, soothing cream visibly alleviates dark circles and smoothes the eye and lip contours, for a refreshed, energised look. Its texture penetrates easily to awaken the look and smooth lip contour. It’s Anti-wrinkle, Anti-dark circles, Fragrance-free
and Ophtalmologist tested
Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream
This hardly needs any introduction. It’s a cult classic and hero of the Elemis range. Everyone loves it and it’s also available in a “For Men’ version but it’s slightly scented and I like the original much more. A powerful anti-ageing cream which uses collagen to lift and firm your skin.
Made from a combination of marine algae padina pavonica, rose and mimosa absolutes and gingko biloba and liposomes, it will reduce the appearance of wrinkles, increase hydration and add moisture.
Temple Spa La La Lagoon
Seriously, this shower gel screams holidays. Its my default shower gel to take on holidays and it quite often appears as a room amenities product in fancy spas. It’s formulated with a luxury spa fragrance of peppermint, anise, rosewood and patchouli, plus skin conditioning aloe vera to cleanse, soften and chase away any tiredness, whilst leaving your skin beautifully fragrant. £12
Clarins Men Tanning Booster
It’s gentle, it’s light and you simply add it to your moisturiser. As with all fave tan. Less is definitely more. This is the first ClarinsMen self-tanner designed to add-on to any Clarins facial moisturiser (although to be honest you could add it to any moisturiser). 3 drops of the Tanning Booster combined with your regular moisturiser is all it takes to achieve a healthy, sun-kissed look.
St Tropez In Shower Gradual Tan
I have to say until this product came along, I have had more fake tan disasters than successes. I like this because its easy to apply (in the shower) you leave it on for a about 3-4 minutes. and then wash off. It’s GRADUAL so you don’t come out looking orange and the colour that develops is gentle. you build it up over the course of three days. you could take it darker. for me two days was actually enough. again, that healthy sun-kissed look, like I’d been out in the garden, not frying under a sunbed.
Dorco Classic Razor
Does the world need a seven blade razor? Well Dorco obviously thinks so. It performs well. It gives a nice close shave, but I found the head a touch big, which meant that shaving to shape your beard required much more effort and concentration that most normal razors. It’s hard to get the fine edge easily. The addition of this wider strip does have its plus points though.
The Advanced Lubricating Strip with natural extracts including antioxidants from Argan oil and Calendula extract minimise skin irritation.
Dorco Classic razor is £8.74 for just the handle and one blade
