Review: Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay, Ibiza

Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay - The Spa Man

The Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay has firmly established itself as the right place to stay in Talamanca, Ibiza.  It’s perfectly positioned to make the most of views across the sea on one side and towards a protected nature reserve on the other. This open plan style is bright and breezy and lends itself perfectly to island life and instantly creates a sense of place. The view to Ibiza Bay on a sunny day is hard to beat and from reception you look across the main pool, sun loungers and then the azure blue sea beyond. It’s the beating heart of the hotel with lots of guests who want to see and be seen. It’s also the site of the Nobu restaurant. It really comes alive at night. Near the entrance is Celicioso – a cool cafe serving great coffee and gluten free cakes and light bites. The banana cake is a must.

Throughout the hotel you will find simple lines with white walls and exposed timber punctuated with comfy sofas layered with coastal blue cushions. You could stay and play all day.

Opening in June 2017, Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay is a must visit, whether as a hotel guest, on a spa day, for a massage or for fine dining. It really has it all and commands a spectacular position on the bay.

The spa at Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay

The spa at Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay is compact with just five treatment rooms (which includes the two outdoor cabanas by the beach). The spa reception is on the ground floor and features manicure and pedicure stations and a smart retail area. To use the steam and sauna you are escorted to the second floor in a separate part of the building. I recommend that you make use of these facilities pre-treatment to warm and relax the muscles. Then your therapist will collect you and take you to another level, up one floor to the massage treatment rooms. The decor is simple with wooden walls and a cosy feel in the spa, punctuated with local artisan artwork. There’s no specific relaxation space, but if you are staying in the hotel or on a day spa package you can rest and relax on a sun lounger by the pool or on the beach.

The treatment

We were originally booked for a Zen massage which is a gentle therapy using long flowing strokes. But our wise therapists, noting our consultation card recommended we try the just for me treatment. This is tailor made to your needs and what a treat. Focussing on my back, neck and shoulders, it combined deep tissue and a touch of stretching. It all begins with a gong, a signature of Six Senses spas. Then using Subtle Energies delightful Bliss Blend of Ayurveda massage used a combination of strong forceful pressure interspersed with light touch techniques to soothe the muscles from head to toe. The leg work was especially good really sorting out my calf muscles.

Room to improve

The spa design is awkward and doesn’t allow for a seamless spa journey. This is limit d by the hotel design, but is a downside of the experience.

The therapists offered a great treatment but didn’t introduce themselves by name.
